St. Basil's Cathedral, Russia

The vivid colors and onion domes are breathlessly inspiring. The cathedral on Red Square, in Moscow, was originally built by Postnik Yakovlev for Ivan the Terrible in 1555-61 in celebration of Russia's victory over the Tartars. Surrounded by several of the most important structures in Russian history, Moscow's Red Square is one of the notable urban plazas of European civilization.
